Across Nigeria, coastal erosion, flooding, pollution, biodiversity loss, declining fisheries, poor waste management, and environmental degradation continue to threaten livelihoods, deepen poverty, and limit opportunities for millions of people.
Climate change is not only an environmental challenge. For many Nigerian communities, it is a daily struggle for food security, safe shelter, clean water, decent livelihoods and dignity. Every flooded community, disappearing mangrove forest, polluted river and failed harvest tells the same story that environmental injustice disproportionately affects those with the fewest resources to recover. THREAD Initiative exists to help change that story.
THREAD Initiative believes these challenges cannot be solved through top-down approaches alone. Lasting solutions emerge when communities are trusted to lead, young people are empowered to innovate, and local knowledge is combined with evidence-based climate action.
Our programmes are designed to address both environmental challenges and the social inequalities that make communities more vulnerable to climate change
Developing the next generation of climate advocates, researchers and community organizers through training, mentorship and leadership opportunities.
Supporting vulnerable communities to prepare for and adapt to climate-related risks through locally driven resilience initiatives.
Protecting and restoring mangroves, wetlands and degraded ecosystems that provide natural protection against flooding and sustain biodiversity.
Promoting climate-smart enterprises that improve household incomes while reducing environmental degradation.
Supporting community-based recycling, waste management and clean energy solutions that reduce pollution and create economic opportunities.
Strengthening citizen participation in environmental decision-making and supporting evidence-informed climate policies at local and national levels.
Your support enables us to reach more communities, train more youth leaders, restore more ecosystems, and build a future where environmental justice is a reality for all Nigerians.
