Across Nigeria, coastal erosion, flooding, pollution, biodiversity loss, declining fisheries, poor waste management, and environmental degradation continue to threaten livelihoods, deepen poverty, and limit opportunities for millions of people.
THREAD Initiative believes these challenges cannot be solved through top-down approaches alone. Lasting solutions emerge when communities are trusted to lead, young people are empowered to innovate, and local knowledge is combined with evidence-based climate action.
Founded in 2017, THREAD Initiative has evolved into a youth-led organization advancing environmental justice, climate adaptation, ecosystem restoration, and sustainable livelihoods for vulnerable communities across Nigeria.

Equipping young Nigerians with knowledge, leadership skills, and practical experience to become climate champions within their communities.
Supporting communities to influence climate policies, protect natural resources, and demand environmental accountability.
Creating opportunities that improve household incomes while reducing pressure on forests, wetlands, mangroves and coastal ecosystems.
Working alongside local people to design solutions that respond to their realities, priorities, and indigenous knowledge.
Protecting and restoring mangroves, wetlands and degraded landscapes that sustain both biodiversity and local livelihoods.
Advancing community voices in climate governance and strengthening inclusive policy dialogue at local and national levels.
Since 2017, THREAD Initiative has worked with youth groups, communities, local governments, researchers and civil society partners to strengthen climate resilience through practical, locally owned solutions.
Our work spans coastal communities, urban informal settlements and environmentally vulnerable areas where climate change continues to threaten livelihoods and ecosystems.
Through restoration projects, youth climate leadership programmes, environmental education, policy engagement and livelihood interventions, we continue to support communities to adapt while protecting the natural resources they depend upon.
Explore Our Impact StoriesClimate change is not only an environmental challenge. For many Nigerian communities, it is a daily struggle for food security, safe shelter, clean water, decent livelihoods and dignity.
Every flooded community, disappearing mangrove forest, polluted river and failed harvest tells the same story that environmental injustice disproportionately affects those with the fewest resources to recover. THREAD Initiative exists to help change that story.
